Che v'ho fato, o luci, dite

Originally for Soprano and basso continuo.
Original Language: Italian

Che v'ho fato,* o luci, dite,
Che ad ognor mi tormentate?
Se pietà voi mi negate,
A che fine mi ferite?
Di saettarmi il cor cessate, o rai,
Già che piagate e non sanate mai.
O mio sole, dunque sempre
Tu m'alletti acciò ch'io mora,
Né per me mutansi ancora
Del destin le fiere tempre.
Di riscaldarmi il sen fermate omai,
Già che promovi e non rissolvi mai.

Poet:
Pietro Dolfino

English

What have I done

What have I done to you, oh eyes, tell me,
that you keep tormenting me?
If you deny me compassion,
what's the point of hurting me?
Stop injuring my heart, o eyes,
since you wound and never heal.
Oh, my sun, you thus entice me
to the point where I'll die,
and the harsh temper of destiny
doesn't change for me.
Stop inflaming my breast,
since you start things that you never resolve.
