Lilla crudele

Originally for Soprano and basso continuo.
Original Language: Italian

Lilla mia non ti doler
Se disciolgo i lacci al core,
E s'il mio costante amore
Deve estinto alfin cader.
La tua gran crudeltà disciolse il laccio,
Son uscito fuor d'impaccio.
Canterò: "Libertà, quanto sei cara,
E ben dolce sei tu se Lilla è amara."

Lilla mia, tengo in pensier

English

Cruel Lilla

My Lilla, don't be sad
if I untie the bonds on my heart,
and if my constant love
must at last be extinguished.
Your great cruelty unties the bonds,
and I'm out of trouble.
I'll sing: "Freedom, how beloved you are,
and you’re sweet if Lilla is bitter."

My Lilla, my idea is
that I don't want to suffer more pain,
that to remain in chains
is crazy, to tell you the truth.
I bless the cruelty that unties the bond,
and since I'm out of trouble
I'll sing: "Freedom, how beloved you are,
and the more Lilla is bitter the sweeter you are."
