Hodie oritur

Dedication:

Per tutti li Confessori
Originally for Soprano and basso continuo.
Original Language: Latin

Hodie oritur nobis lumen
recolitur memoria, agitur dies festus,
dies celestis Sancti Hieronimi.

Canant mortales,
iubilent hodie,
et sancti gloriam
promant cum gaudio.
Nulla sint tristia,
cuncta lætissima.

De cœlis splendet lux;
radiatur Ecclesia,
totus denique mundus
illius meritis illustratur.

Canant mortales...

In terris mirabilia,
in Cœlis grandia
fecit iste Sanctus,
mundum calcavit.
Deum dilexit et ideo in Cœlis letatur.
Deum dilexit et ideo perfusus gloria,
pro nobis intercedit.
Alleluia.

English

Today is risen

For all confessors

Today a light is risen for us,
a memory is recalled, a feast day is kept,
the heavenly day of Saint Jerome.

Let mortals sing,
let them rejoice this day,
let them express the glory
of the saint with joy.
Let there be no sadness,
let all be most joyous.

Light shines from the heavens;
The Church is radiant,
and all the world
is brightened by his merits.

Let mortals sing...

This saint performed
miracles on earth,
great things in Heaven,
and trampled the the world underfoot.
He loved God and thereby rejoices in Heaven.
He loved God and thereby imbued with glory,
he intercedes on our behalf.
Alleluia.
